Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
I had lunch with my old friend Jonathan Leijonhufvud (who drums for PK14) the other day and he told me that this song, which we recorded back in 2000 in a classical orchestra studio in Xinjiekou, might be released as part of a Chinese punk compilation due to come out on vinyl (details TBD).
From left to right, Dave O’Dell (their second bassist after wuliao jundui), Xu Lin (drums), Wang Jian (guitar) and Xiao Rong lead singer and the spirit of the band for many years. This was probably one of our best rehearsals, sound quality of the recording is pretty good. Filmed at the epicenter of Beijing punk, the original Bai Huar rehearsal space next to the studio. I believe the songs are:
1) Coming down to BEIJING
2) Gotta get away (I think)
3) Fucking Disco (a screaching weasel version)
4) Anarchy in the PRC
5) Lick You Baby
6) Living in the City
Peking Punks
As Beijing punk band Demerit embarks on the final leg of their US tour, which included many stops on the Vans Warped Tour, a look back at their Peking punk predecessors is worthy.
my oh my what a night saturday was! I had been looking forward to the Punk festival for a few weeks now but nothing prepared me for the amount of fun and atmosphere that this was…. easily the best one of the series so far and definitely the most organized
